Viscount Winter Wheat
- Highest yielding Group 3 in UK trials
- Very high untreated yield
- Resistant to Wheat Orange Blossom Midge
- Excellent disease resistance profile
- Good straw characters – short and stiff
The highest yielding potential Group 3 winter wheat in trials across the UK, Viscount is the next step in the soft milling market. Viscount also offers excellent agronomic characteristics and wheat orange blossom midge resistance.
Yield
The very high yield potential has been demonstrated in trials throughout the UK, from Scotland to the South coast. Trials conducted by BSPB, TAG and CPB Twyford have all shown the potential of Viscount. Additionally Viscount has a very high untreated yield.

4 Year NL Mean Treated Yield

CPB Twyford Treated Yield 2005-2007

In CPB Twyford trials, Viscount has consistently demonstrated a yield performance above current market standards. Additionally W136 appears to be stable over region and soil type.
TAG Yield 2007 - All Regions

Grain Quality
Viscount is a Group 3 soft milling wheat and has given good results in milling testing. Additionally, Viscount has demonstrated above average spirit yield in both years of testing and appears to be well suited for distilling. Viscount gives large, bright grain with good physical quality.

PGR Treatments
Viscount has short stiff straw. However, with the potential to perform at such high levels a routine PGR application is recommended at GS 31.
Additional treatment may be advisable if yield potential is expected to be very high.
Agronomy
Viscount has moderate winter dormancy and is suited to sowing from mid September and can safely be sown to the end of January.
Viscount has moderate to good tillering ability and tiller retention.
Wheat Orange Blossom Midge
Viscount is resistant to Wheat Orange Blossom Midge and is unlikely to require specific treatment.
