We will supply the following varieties for Spring 2009.
Oilseed Rape
Astrid – Short stiff straw, good Phoma and Light Leaf Spot resistance and consistent performance make this variety a popular choice. Slightly lower oil content than average may be seen as a minor disadvantage.
Castille – A widely grown variety, showing generally good all round performance. It is however seeing stiff competition from newer varieties.
Alienor – A candidate variety hoping for recommendation this year. Alienor comes from the same breeder as Astrid, with the same straw and disease characters. Improved oil content and Gross Output make Alienor a newcomer worth trying.
Vision – Another candidate variety, with similar gross output to Alienor. Slightly later to flower and mature.
Trabant – A restored Hybrid, having enjoyed a strong following in the south east. Excellent autumn and spring vigour help to give establishment a better chance. A consistent performer but with lower oil yields than some conventionals.
Excalibur – Established and popular Hybrid, Excalibur’s agronomics are sound, even though Stem Canker resistance is rated at 5.
Dimension – A candidate variety, with high seed and oil yields. Good straw and disease profiles make this a sound varietal choice. Limited seed supply will probably run out early.
Flash – From the same breeder as Dimension, but slightly later to mature. Very good gross output, hence placed at the top of the recommended list.
Linseed
Linseed values now make the crop an attractive option in some situations.
